We recently added some fresh sand to our sandboxes and the kids are loving it! Sand play offers many benefits to children. Here are some ways we use sand at the school that you can also do at home with your child.
- Develop fine motor skills by using a small shovel, pulling a truck, and building a castle or moat.
- Write words in the sand to develop language skills. Parents can ask questions to capitalize on the language play that can occur in the sand.
- Develop social skills like problem solving, sharing, and communicating with others.
- The sensory experience with sand is unmatched. Feeling different textures helps them explore their sense of touch and express what they are feeling.
So get out there and find some sand and explore sand play with your child!
